    The Master of Arts in Applied Linguistics [MA(AppliedLinguistics)] is designed for people who are currently teaching, or who want to teach, English at tertiary level. The focus of the course is therefore on issues relating to the teaching, learning and use of English as a medium of tertiary academic and professional education. Some modules in the course contribute to an understanding of English in all contexts, while others relate more specifically to the learning context in Hong Kong. The course is offered on a part-time basis over two years and on a full-time basis over one year.

    The Master of Arts in the field of Literary and Cultural Studies (MALCS) programme introduces students to a wide range of theoretical, literary and filmic texts, exploring historical and contemporary issues related to modernity and globalisation. The programme consists of seven courses and a dissertation or equivalent project, and will be offered in a full-time (one year) or part-time (two years) modes. It adopts an interdisciplinary approach, with all courses largely shaped by critical and cultural theory, looking at texts such as film and literature through the perspectives of post-structuralism, deconstruction, psychoanalysis, phenomenology, feminism, Marxism, and post-colonial criticism. Students are encouraged to pursue either a literary and cultural studies stream, or a film and cultural studies stream within the Programme. At the end of their coursework, students are expected to complete individual projects which contribute to the body of knowledge in liberal-studies and humanistic inquiry.

It further aims to provide training in the practical use of Buddhist teachings in modern societies, and offers a critical review of Buddhism in Hong Kong, Mainland China and the region. Topics include the history and doctrines of the different Buddhist traditions, contemporary Buddhism, and Buddhism as applied in counselling, palliative care and psychotherapy, with particular reference to current scholarly research.

    A good Bachelor's degree from a recognised university, or equivalent qualifications, and a sample of creative writing in English.English majors and applicants majoring in the following fields will be given high priority: literary, language and communication studies; journalism; translation; drama; media and cultural studies; music; fine arts; and law.Applicants are required to submit a sample of original creative writing in English for evaluation. The sample may be a short story, a chapter in a novel, a selection of poems, scenes from a play, or excerpts from a memoir or another type of creative nonfiction.
